Pink House

A native prairie-inspired garden and backyard retreat in Lubbock’s historic district—designed for low maintenance, outdoor living, and authentic connection to place.

Lubbock, Texas

Project Overview:

Located in one of Lubbock’s historic neighborhoods, The Pink House reimagines a small urban property as a modern prairie garden. The homeowner’s goal was to create a low-maintenance, water-wise landscape that honored the native grasslands that once covered the region while providing a welcoming outdoor retreat. Prairie Workshop transformed the property into a comfortable and ecologically grounded space that later became a five-star-rated Airbnb destination.

Design Intent:

The design balances authenticity and comfort—merging the simplicity of native prairie plantings with the intimacy of a private residence. A carefully curated palette of native grasses, perennials, and seasonal blooms creates year-round color and texture while supporting pollinators and reducing water use. The backyard includes a custom deck for outdoor living and a fenced dog yard that integrates seamlessly into the landscape. The result is a small-scale sanctuary that celebrates both home and habitat.

Key Sustainability Features:

use of native plant materials / water-wise landscape, habitat creation, function outdoor design.
