ABOUT

Our Philosophy

Prairie Workshop creates landscapes that merge design artistry with ecological integrity. Every project—whether a campus greenway, a riverside park, or a private garden—is rooted in respect for place, native ecology, and craft.

About the Firm

Founded in 2010, Prairie Workshop is a landscape architecture studio dedicated to crafting sustainable outdoor environments that respond to local ecology, climate, and culture. The firm’s work ranges from campus landscapes and riparian corridors to residential gardens and interpretive spaces—each one designed with an emphasis on place, material honesty, and long-term stewardship.

Our approach is collaborative and hands-on, built around listening to clients, studying the land, and shaping spaces that endure.

Founder/Principal Bio

Jason Hodges is the Principal Landscape Architect and Founder of Prairie Workshop, a landscape architecture firm specializing in site planning and sustainable design. With more than 25 years of professional experience, Jason has established a reputation for crafting landscapes that balance aesthetics, ecology, and long-term stewardship.

A native Texan, Jason earned his Master of Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech University, where he later served as the Campus Landscape Architect for the Texas Tech University System. During his decade of leadership there, he oversaw more than $16 million in landscape development across campuses in Amarillo, El Paso, San Angelo, Midland, Odessa, and Lubbock—projects that became models for integrating low-impact design, regional materials, and native plantings across West Texas.

In 2010, Jason founded Prairie Workshop to bring that same philosophy to public, institutional, and residential projects across Texas and New Mexico. His work reflects a deep understanding of soil and water resources, a mastery of water-wise plant design, and a belief that every outdoor space should tell the story of its place.

Jason is a licensed landscape architect in both Texas and New Mexico and an award-winning designer whose collaborations have been featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine and Sculpture Magazine. He continues to lead Prairie Workshop with a focus on creating landscapes that connect people to the land through craft, ecology, and design integrity.
